Approximately 5 1/2" wide by 18" high. Madrone Burl and Black Walnut. Madrone trees, sometimes called refrigerator trees, always seem to be cold. The is because the tree pulls so much water into the trunk, that there is a constant evaporation which keeps it cool. During the drying process, it can be difficult to find enough fibers to form a solid piece of wood. The burl, having an odd growth pattern already, forms the fissures that you see. Most woodworkers prefer not to work with this wood because it can be problematic. In this burl I found rocks as big as my fist. But, I have found that with patience there can be a pleasing outcome. 7 pieces.
